    5 Vitamins For Beautiful Skin

Screen Shot 2016-07-29 at 3.39.20 PM

For the past 2 years I’ve been really focused on taking better care of my skin. While I’m taking better care of what I put on my skin, it’s also important to nourish my skin from within. Here’s a guide to the essential vitamins you need for beautiful skin and how to get them into your diet. Vitamins A, C, E, K and B Complex are beneficial for beautiful, healthy skin.

    5 best vitamins for skin

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant found in abundance in papaya, bell peppers, pineapple, strawberries, citrus fruits, broccoli and leafy greens. Studies show that foods high in vitamin C can help protect skin from harmful UV rays by increasing the effectiveness of sunscreen. It is also required to build collagen – actually our bodies can’t do it without vitamin C.

As we age, our bodies lose the ability to produce collagen at the same rate as when we were young. Adding that extra vitamin C can help reduce sagging skin, fine lines and wrinkles. Getting enough vitamin C also boosts immunity. In addition to eating your daily dose, look for topical skin creams with included vitamin C for even more anti-aging benefits.

Vitamin C is best acquired from the very freshest fruits and veggies. The amount of vitamin C declines after the produce has been picked or cooked. Eat raw, locally grown veggies and fruit for the highest amounts of natural vitamin C.

    Some Vitamin C sources:

Kale and other leafy greens, broccoli, oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruit, parsley, cauliflower, spinach, fennel, peas, carrots, kiwi fruit and papaya.

    Calming Cucumber Yogurt Mask

    cucumber yogurt mask

Its been hot and sunny in NYC lately. With everyone taking advantage of the nice weather by going to beaches and parks to enjoy the sun to get glowy tans. While most of us enjoying soaking in the rays we all know that too much sun isn’t good for us. So for those time you lay out in the sun for a little too long try this Calming Cucumber Yogurt Mask.

This recipe calms skin with naturally anti-inflammatory cucumbers and additional probiotics to nourish your skin microbiome. The high levels of caffeic acid in cucumbers reduce swelling and inflammation. This mask feels especially good after a day spent in the sun.

    • 1/2 Cucumber, Pureed
    • 2 Tablespoons of Plain Yogurt

Combine the ingredients in a small bowl and apply to a clean face with clean hands. Avoid the eye area. Leave the mask on for 15 minutes and then rinse with warm water. Follow with toner (if needed) and moisturizer.

Beauty & Health Benefits of Lemon

    lemons 1

Lemons are a superfood and provide 51% of the body’s daily Vitamin C needs as well as thiamin, riboflavin, vitamin B-6, pantothenic acid, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, copper and manganese into your diet. It has low calories (29 cal /100gm) and almost no fat.

    1. Cleanses the body

Lemon water has a powerful cleansing effect on your liver by strengthening enzyme functions. The liver is a central organ that aids your internal organs, digestive system, and circulatory system. Warm water with lemon flushes out the toxins in the body and detoxes one of the body’s most important organs.

    2. Better Skin Complexion

Lemons contain powerful antioxidants and can help fight skin damage due to the sun or other pollutants. Since lemons contain a high concentration of Vitamin C, which is the main ingredient in the formation of collagen in the body, they are terrific for skin complexion and health.

    3. Aids in weight loss and controlling cravings

Lemons will help you lose weight in a variety of ways. First off, pectin fibre present in lemon reduces hunger cravings and makes you feel full. .If you choose to use lemon water in the mornings (highly recommended), will help you feel fuller. Plus, the added effects on the body’s digestive system will help your metabolism work more efficiently and better utilize the nutrients you eat. Mocha Mud Mask

    mocha mud mask

On the weekends I love to do beauty regimens , such as face masks. So I thought I’d share this recipe for a Mocha Mud Mask that is a power-packed anti-aging treat for your skin

Cocoa powder delivers tons of anti-aging antioxidants. It contains flavonoids that help the skin retain moisture, an essential ingredient for glowing skin, as well as copper, iron and magnesium. Cocoa’s antioxidants help repair damaged skin, and it contains the compound xanthine that may help prevent sun damage.

Not only does cocoa contain powerful natural plant compounds, but it also has been proven to help lower blood pressure and boost your mood. Look for dark chocolate cocoa powder (sometimes called cocoa) for the most benefits. Continue reading “Mocha Mud Mask” »
